Top Questions to Ask a Custom Northport, NY Pool Company
Want to make a splash with a custom pool installation? A swimming pool can be a wonderful asset for your Suffolk County home and can offer a variety of benefits for you, your family, and your friends; however, in order to ensure you get the best pool design, hiring a reputable pool builder that has ample knowledge, extensive experience, and a proven track record of success is essential. How can you do that? By interviewing a few prospective candidates and asking some key questions.
The answers to the following questions will help you decide which Northport, NY pool company you should hire.
Are you licensed and insured?
Any contractor who does construction work on your Suffolk County home should be licensed and insured – including a pool builder. Licensing is important, as it shows a Northport, NY pool company has been properly trained and knows what they’re doing. Insurance is important in the event that any problems arise. If you hire a company that isn’t properly insured, you could be held liable for the legal ramifications and exorbitant costs that are associated with any accidents or injuries that may occur. Don’t just ask prospective pool builders if they’re licensed and insured; ask to see proof and confirm the validity of both.
Can I see samples of your work?
A quality Northport, NY pool company will have a portfolio that they will be happy to share with their potential clients. The portfolio should feature a variety of projects and highlight different designs, styles, and water features to really showcase what the pool builder can do. If any of the contractors you speak with won’t provide a portfolio of projects they’ve completed, consider that a red flag and cross them off your list.
What will be included in the contract?
Swimming pool design and installation is intensive and involves a variety of elements. From the 3D renderings and the heavy equipment, to the materials and supplies – and much more – make sure you find out exactly what will be included in the contract so that you aren’t hit with any additional and unexpected costs.
Do you have references?
Past clients can tell you a lot about the results that a Suffolk County pool builder will deliver, so make sure you ask for references and take the time to reach out to a few people on the list. Inquire about what the project entailed, the swimming pool contractor’s professionalism, and whether or not the past clients you speak with were satisfied with the results and would recommend using the Northport, NY pool company. If a prospective pool builder doesn’t provide references, proceed with caution; or better yet, nix them and find someone else.
Do you offer a guarantee/warranty?
A swimming pool is a big investment, but unfortunately, things can happen post-installation; for example, the ground can shift and cause cracks and leaks in gunite pools and fiberglass pools. Should that happen not long after the installation is complete, you don’t want to get hit with unexpected and exorbitant repair costs. A reputable Northport, NY pool company will offer a guarantee/warranty that will cover issues that may occur within a specific period of time post-installation.

Northport is a historic maritime village on the north shore of Long Island, New York. Initially designated Great Cow Harbour by 17th-century English colonists, the area was officially renamed Northport in 1837. In 1894, in an effort to localize governance, the community incorporated as a village.
The original inhabitants of the area now known as Northport were the Matinecocks, one of 13 Native American tribes of Long Island. The Matinecocks called this land Opcathontyche, which meant “wading place creek”. After Dutch interest a few years earlier, the land was sold by Chief Asharoken, head of the Matinecocks, to three Englishmen in 1656.
With land that was well suited for farming, the early settlers grazed cattle on pastures around the harbor. The area soon became known as Great Cow Harbour. (The nearby hamlet of was known as Little Cow Harbour.) The oldest house still standing in Northport, the Skidmore House on Main Street, was built in 1761. In 2009 the house was put up for sale, sparking the village to pass a historical preservation law.Woodbine Avenue and Northport Harbor, circa 1900
In the early 19th century Great Cow Harbor was still a rural farming community. By the 1830s the village contained only eight dwellings. But a new industry of shipbuilding brought rapid change and growth. The village shifted away from its farming roots as shipbuilding became the community’s primary industry. By 1837 the village was being referred to as Northport.Learn more about Northport.
