Top Questions to Ask a Custom Oakdale, NY Pool Company
Want to make a splash with a custom pool installation? A swimming pool can be a wonderful asset for your Suffolk County home and can offer a variety of benefits for you, your family, and your friends; however, in order to ensure you get the best pool design, hiring a reputable pool builder that has ample knowledge, extensive experience, and a proven track record of success is essential. How can you do that? By interviewing a few prospective candidates and asking some key questions.
The answers to the following questions will help you decide which Oakdale, NY pool company you should hire.
Are you licensed and insured?
Any contractor who does construction work on your Suffolk County home should be licensed and insured – including a pool builder. Licensing is important, as it shows a Oakdale, NY pool company has been properly trained and knows what they’re doing. Insurance is important in the event that any problems arise. If you hire a company that isn’t properly insured, you could be held liable for the legal ramifications and exorbitant costs that are associated with any accidents or injuries that may occur. Don’t just ask prospective pool builders if they’re licensed and insured; ask to see proof and confirm the validity of both.
Can I see samples of your work?
A quality Oakdale, NY pool company will have a portfolio that they will be happy to share with their potential clients. The portfolio should feature a variety of projects and highlight different designs, styles, and water features to really showcase what the pool builder can do. If any of the contractors you speak with won’t provide a portfolio of projects they’ve completed, consider that a red flag and cross them off your list.
What will be included in the contract?
Swimming pool design and installation is intensive and involves a variety of elements. From the 3D renderings and the heavy equipment, to the materials and supplies – and much more – make sure you find out exactly what will be included in the contract so that you aren’t hit with any additional and unexpected costs.
Do you have references?
Past clients can tell you a lot about the results that a Suffolk County pool builder will deliver, so make sure you ask for references and take the time to reach out to a few people on the list. Inquire about what the project entailed, the swimming pool contractor’s professionalism, and whether or not the past clients you speak with were satisfied with the results and would recommend using the Oakdale, NY pool company. If a prospective pool builder doesn’t provide references, proceed with caution; or better yet, nix them and find someone else.
Do you offer a guarantee/warranty?
A swimming pool is a big investment, but unfortunately, things can happen post-installation; for example, the ground can shift and cause cracks and leaks in gunite pools and fiberglass pools. Should that happen not long after the installation is complete, you don’t want to get hit with unexpected and exorbitant repair costs. A reputable Oakdale, NY pool company will offer a guarantee/warranty that will cover issues that may occur within a specific period of time post-installation.

Oakdale is a hamlet in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 7,974 at the 2010 census. Oakdale is in the Town of Islip. It has been home to Gilded Age mansions, the South Side Sportsmen’s Club, and the main campus of Dowling College. It is now home to Connetquot River State Park Preserve.
Oakdale was founded around two Native American trade routes, where Sunrise Highway and Montauk Highway currently lie. Oakdale was part of the royal land grant given to William Nicoll, who founded Islip Town in 1697. Local historian Charles P. Dickerson wrote in 1975 that Oakdale’s name appeared to come from a Nicoll descendant in the mid-19th century. The community includes: St. John’s Episcopal Church, built in 1765, is the third oldest church on Long Island.
The community originated with a tavern owned by Eliphalet (Liff) Snedecor in what is now Connetquot River State Park Preserve. Soon after its founding in 1820, Snedecor’s Tavern began drawing New York bluebloods and business barons who wined and dined in remote joy when they weren’t fishing and hunting nearby. “Liff’s food is as good as his creek”, a magazine writer declared in 1839 referring to the food and Connetquot River. The writer added: “and the two are only second to his mint juleps and champagne punch; whoever gainsays either fact deserves hanging without benefit of clergy.”
In 1866, as the railroad reached the area, Liff’s wealthy patrons formed the South Side Sportsmen’s Club, and soon the race was on to see who could create the most superb spread in the thick forests adjoining Great South Bay. The most prominent were built by William K. Vanderbilt, grandson of railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt; Frederick G. Bourne, president of the Singer Sewing Machine Co., and Christopher Robert II, an eccentric heir to a sugar fortune. Meanwhile, William Bayard Cutting, a lawyer, financier and railroad man, built his estate next door in Great River, New York which had once been west Oakdale.
